NEW YORK -
Auburn's top doubles team of senior Andreas Mies
and junior Daniel Cochrane
won their opening match at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Mies and Cochrane defeated Tennessee's team of Mikelis LIbietis and John Collins, 8-6, to advance to the quarterfinals. Auburn got up a break at 3-1 early in the match and fought off three Tennessee break points throughout the match to advance.
The Auburn duo will face another SEC pairing in Friday's quarterfinal in Mississippi State's team of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp. Angus/Stropp earned their way into the National Indoors with a tournament victory at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional last month in Auburn.
