COLUMBIA, S.C. - Auburn's Alex Petropoulos and Nick Maurillo ended their run at the South Carolina Tennis Classic on Sunday as both fell in the semifinals of their respective brackets.

The Tigers continue their fall schedule Oct. 14-22 at the ITA Region 3 Tournament in Lexington, Ky.

For Auburn head coach Eric Shore, the weekend tournament offered a good opportunity for his team to pick up some experience.

"Being able to take players to a tournament like this, playing in a tournament format, really helps to prepare them for the kind of competition we have in our spring dual season," said Shore. "All three players we brought this weekend made it to a semifinal match, so we really got a lot of match experience out of it."

Petropoulos, a junior transfer from Australia, fell in the semifinals of the A/B bracket at the USC Classic, losing to UAB's Tyrone Ewels, 6-4, 6-4. Ewels went on to win the championship match.

Maurillo, playing in the B-1 bracket, lost to South Florida's Thomas Estrada, 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. Estrada also went on to win in the championship match.

Also in action Sunday was Auburn's Hunter Mills. Mills advanced to the semifinal match in the B-1 consolation bracket and won his match by virtue of an injury of his scheduled opponent, UNC-Greensboro's William John.
