TULSA, Okla - The Auburn doubles team of senior Alex Stamchev and junior Andreas Mies continued to power their way through the main draw at the ITA All-American Championship Friday, defeating two more top-20 pairings on their way to the semifinals.

"They've played a solid tournament," Auburn head coach Eric Shore said. "They've gotten better every match. But they've had to - the competition keeps getting better. They're playing well and doing the right things. Tomorrow is another good opportunity for us."

With wins over the No. 4 and No. 18-ranked doubles teams in the country today, the Tiger pairing has defeated three straight top-20 teams. They also knocked off Duke's 15th-ranked team of Henrique Cunha and Chris Mengel in Thursday's first round.

"It gives you confidence," Shore said. "I don't really see anyone that we should be afraid of; a lot of the teams are very close at this point in the season. But you know everyone is going to be pretty good in the All-American tournament."

Stamchev and Mies, ranked 26th nationally in the ITA preseason ratings, started their day with an 8-5 second-round win over 18th-ranked Phil Anderson and Jadon Phillips of New Mexico to advance to the quarterfinals.

Once there, the Auburn pairing took down the No. 4-ranked team in the nation, Tulsa's Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling, with an 8-6 victory to head to the tournament semifinals.

"Like Coach Shore said, we're doing the right things right now," Stamchev said. "We're complementing each other very well. We're both serving well, and we just need to keep it up."

The going gets no easier for the Tiger duo as they are slated to face the nation's No. 1-ranked doubles team of Kevin King and Juan Spir from Georgia Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at noon Saturday at the Case Tennis Center.
