AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn tennis sophomore Alex Stamchev improved to 3-0 to advance to the singles main draw at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
After dropping the first set 3-6, Stamchev battled back to defeat Vanderbilt's Ryan Lipman in the final two sets (6-3, 6-3). With the win, Stamchev earned a spot in the 64-man singles main draw, which starts Thursday.
Junior Tim Puetz also competed for Auburn, facing Oklahoma's Costin Pavel in the third round of qualifying singles. Pavel came away with the 7-6, 6-1 win over Puetz.
The Auburn duo is set to begin doubles competition on Thursday, taking part in the 32-team doubles main draw.
