AUBURN, Ala. - Tim Puetz and Alex Stamchev each advanced in the qualifying singles at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships on Monday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Stamchev, a sophomore from Pleven, Bulgaria, defeated fifth-seeded Lachlan Ferguson of Indiana, 6-2, 6-3. Sixth-seeded junior Puetz topped Wichita State's Vlad Marinescu in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 6-0) to conclude Monday's competition.
Competition continues Tuesday, seeing Stamchev face Matt Allare of Ohio State, while Puetz takes on UNLV's Luca Barlocchi. The duo also begins doubles competition on Tuesday, taking part in the first round of qualifying doubles.
