TULSA, Okla. - Auburn men's tennis junior Andreas Mies won his second-round match, and the doubles team of Daniel Cochrane and Dennis Lengsfeld advanced to their respective third round Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championship.
Mies, ranked 70th in the preseason ITA rankings, defeated Baylor's Mate Zsiga in a three-set battle, 1-6, 7-6(3), 7-5, to advance to the third round of the qualifying singles draw. He will face 62nd-ranked Andre Dome of Cal Poly in the third round Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Senior and 57th-ranked Alex Stamchev dropped his second-round match to Vanderbilt's Gonzales Austin, 6-4, 7-6(8).
In doubles, the 30th-ranked team of Cochrane and Lengsfeld made its Auburn debut with a 9-8(7) victory over Ugur Atalay and Francisco Dias of George Washington in the second round; both teams had a first-round bye. The Auburn duo, seeded second in the qualifying draw, will face Eric Sock and Andre Stenger of Nebraska in Wednesday's third round with the match set for a 12:30 start.
