KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Auburn women’s tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Friday, but four three-set wins in singles by No. 31 Tennessee pushed the Lady Vols passed the Tigers, 4-3, at the Barksdale Stadium in a marathon, five-hour match.

No. 24 Auburn (16-8, 6-6 SEC) opened the match by securing the doubles with strong doubles play from the top of the lineup against Tennessee (12-10, 6-6 SEC). The Gulf Breeze, Fla., duo of Jackie Kasler and Jen Pfeifler earned their third straight win at No. 2, dropping Tennessee’s Eve Repic and Laurence Guervemont, 8-2.

14th-ranked Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger clinched the doubles point for the Tigers, with an 8-4 victory at the top of the lineup, taking down No. 90 Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn William. The pair is now 15-2 in dual match play.

The Tigers got two straight-set wins from Kasler and Pfeifler at the bottom of the lineup in singles play to push their lead to 3-0. Kasler picked up her seventh straight win, posting a 6-2, 6-2 win on court five. Pfeifler followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 line to put Auburn ahead, one match away from securing victory.

All four matches left on court went to three sets, but the Tigers were unable to find a win. Michala Kucharova won the first set, but ultimately fell to Tennessee’s Brittany Lindl, 4-6, 6-4 6-2. The Lady Vols’ No. 75 Repic defeated No. 36 Burgmans, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 on court one to cut the Tigers’ lead to 3-2 on court one.

Tennessee’s Laurence Guevremont tied the match at 3-3 topping Auburn’s Paula de Man, 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 6-4 on court there. Moments later, No. 105 Flickinger fell 7-6 (10-8), 2-6, 6-3 to Tennessee’s Joanna Henderson to allow the Lady Vols to compete the comeback.

Auburn wraps up the regular season on Sunday at No. 8 Georgia with the match set to begin at noon CT. Live stats for the match will be available on
