Men's Tennis Falls at No. 2 Virginia 4-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 16 Auburn men's tennis team dropped its first match of the year, falling to the second-ranked Virginia Cavaliers 4-0 on Friday in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Auburn (5-1) lost the doubles point for the first time this season. Andreas Mies and Lukas Ollert fell at the No. 2 doubles position to 42nd-ranked Alex Domijan and Steven Eelkman Rooda, 8-4. Shortly thereafter, Dennis Lengsfeld and Lucas Lopasso fell on court three to Mitchell Frank and Julen Uriguen by an identical 8-4 margin. Alex Stamchev and Daniel Cochrane were leading 6-5 and serving when their match with 12th-ranked Drew Courtney and Jarmere Jenkins was suspended. In singles, Lengsfeld lost in straight sets to Drew Courtney on court 4, 6-4, 6-1. Stamchev dropped his first singles match of the season as well, falling on court 2 to Domijan, 6-4, 6-0. The Cavaliers clinched the match as No. 1-ranked Mitchell Frank defeated Cochrane at the No. 3 position, 6-4, 6-1. The other three matches were unfinished.
