CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 24 Auburn men’s tennis had its five-match winning streak snapped on Sunday, falling to No. 23 Clemson, 6-1, at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
Auburn (9-2) dropped the doubles point as Clemson’s (10-1) Hunter Harrington and Dominique Maden defeated Lukas Ollert and Dennis Lengsfeld 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. Clemson’s Austin Ansari and Luke Johnson then took down Auburn’s tandem of Dante Saleh and Petar Tomic 6-2 on court three to take the point.
Playing together for the second time in dual match play, Auburn’s Daniel Cochrane and Oliver Plaskett were leading 5-3 on court two when play was suspended.
Lengsfeld provided Auburn with its lone win in singles, posting a three-set win in No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-5, 6-3 over Clemson’s Maden on court two.
Two of the nation’s longest winning streaks in singles were snapped on Sunday. Freshman No. 85 Saleh’s 12-match streak was snapped as the Newport Beach, Calif., native fell 6-4, 6-4 to Clemson’s Ansari.
No. 112 Cochrane was defeated by Clemson’s Alejandro Augusto 6-3, 6-2 on court three. The loss also ended Cochrane’s 10-match winning streak that dated back to the fall season.
Ollert fell to Clemson’s No. 67 Hunter Harrington in a tough three-set match. Despite taking the first set on court one, the junior fell in tiebreakers during the final two sets 6-4, 5-6, 1-0 (6). Plaskett dropped his match on court six 6-3, 6-4, while Tomic was downed by Clemson’s Luke Johnson 6-5, 6-3.
