Tampa, Fla. - The Auburn men's tennis team concluded a successful South Florida Invitational on Sunday with a sweep of the singles competition. Four Tigers went undefeated in singles and the doubles duo of Terence Nugent and Stephen Nash concluded the weekend 3-0.
Four Tigers concluded the tournament undefeated in singles play - Alex Schweizer, Robbert Lathouwers, Nugent and Lukas Marsoun. In Flight A singles, Schweizer defeated Benedict Fischer of Memphis in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Lathouwers made quick work of Jimmy Khougassian, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Marsoun and Charlie Ramsay battled it out in two sets as both went to seven. Marsoun came out the winner, 7-6, 7-5. Pawel Dilaj completed the Flight B singles sweep, defeating Cody Loup, 6-4, 6-2. In Flight C singles, Nugent got past Tezar Putra, 6-3, 6-3, and Nick Maurillo picked up his first win of the tournament, 6-2, 6-3, over Spencer Helflin. Hunter Mills completed the sweep in Flight D, defeating Garrison Pilant, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Lathouwers and Marsoun picked up their second straight victory, today over Khougassian and Ramasy, 8-6. Also taking the victory in Flight A doubles was Schweizer and Dilaj, 8-4, over Pilant/Fischer. Nugent and Nash also made it three-in-a row, winning today, 8-6, over Loup/Heflin.
Auburn opens up its home season on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 12 p.m. CT when it hosts Samford.
