AUBURN----Jackson Beindorf from Vero Beach, Fla.; Kyle Kopsick from Lake Bluff, Ill.; Will McCurdy from Fort Payne, Ala.; John Stembridge from Norcross, Ga.; and David Zickler from Florence, Ala.; have signed national letters of intent to attend Auburn University and play golf in 2008-09, head coach Mike Griffin announced Monday.
"These five young men are going to give us a solid class around whom we can build our future," said Griffin. "Each of them has shown flashes of top line performances during the past few years in junior competition. There is no question that each will have to adjust to the higher levels of college golf, but I am confident that one by one they will grow and develop within our program."
Beindorf attends The Saint Edwards School and was a participant in the 2005 US Men"s Amateur at Merion Golf Club in Philadelphia and advanced to match play at the 2007 US Boy's Junior. Currenlty ranked No. 64 by the Junior Golf Scoreboard, he was the 2007 FCWT National Championship winner and the 2007 FCWT TPC Sawgrass runner-up. Beindor placed third in the 2005 AJGA Hargray.
Kopsick attends The Pendleton School in West Bradenton, Fla., and participated in the 2007 US Boy's Junior. Ranked 67th by Junior Golf Scoreboard, he finished third and sixth in the 2006 and 2007 FCWT National Championship, respectively. This past summer, he was eighth in the Golf Pride Junior Classic and 14th in the Western Junior.
McCurdy attends Fort Payne High School and advanced to match play in the 2007 US Boy's Junior and was a member of the 2007 Alabama All-State Tournament team. Ranked 76th by Junior Golf Scoreboard, McCurdy won the SJGT Terrapin Hills Classic this past summer and was the 2006 SJGT Stonebrook Classic Champion. He recently shot a personal best
63 on his home course, Terrapin Hills.
Stembridge attends Marist and is a three-time champion in the SJGT Match Play and Wilmington Island tournaments in 2007 and the 2006 SJGT Georgia Club Champion. Ranked 87th by Junior Golf Scoreboard, he was the runner-up in the SJGT Tournament of Champions and Georgia High School State Tournament in 2006. He was an outstanding pitcher in baseball with a 13-3 record and a 1.20 ERA.
Zickler attends Florence High School and was the 2007 SJGT Callaway Junior Champion. Ranked 32nd by Junior Golf Scoreboard, he was the SJGT The Moors Junior Classic runner-up and the AJGA Jerry Pate/Andrews Institute Junior runner-up last summer as well as finishing fourth in the AJGA Rome Classic, ninth in the AJGA Aldilia Junior
Classic and 10th in the AJGA Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan.
