AUBURN - Former Auburn golfer Reid Edstrom (71-137) wrapped up Wednesday tied for sixth after 36 holes of the second stage of the 2011 PGA Tour Q-School at the Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas.

The class of 1998 Auburn graduate fired an opening round 66 on Tuesday, following with a second-round 71 to remain in good position to advance from the 75-player field. The top-20 players plus ties at Redstone will advance to the final stage of the 2011 Q-School held Nov. 30 through Dec. 5 at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.

Edstrom leads the field at Redstone in holes at par or better, averaging 97.2 percent and is fourth in par-4 scoring with a 3.80 average.

Competing at the Hombre Golf Club qualifier in Panama City Beach, Fla, former Tiger Glenn Northcutt shot an opening round 69 Wednesday and is currently tied for 11th at 3-under par. The top-21 scores plus ties will advance from Hombre's 78-player field.

Also looking to advance from the Redstone qualifier are former Tigers Will Claxton, Lee Williams and Patton Kizzire. Claxton fired back-to-back rounds of 70 and is currently tied for 21st at 4-under. The class of 2005 graduate stumbled out of the gates on Wednesday, carded bogeys on Nos. 4 and 7, before dropping a string of birdies on 8, 11, 13, and 15.

Williams fought back from an opening round 73, shooting a 2-under 70 on Wednesday to move into 43rd, just four strokes from the top 20. Kizzire slipped into 73rd at 7-over.

Scott Weatherly is tied for 51st at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla., at 2-over.

At Hombre, Jimmy Brandt is tied for 52nd at 3-over and Jamie Bowen is tied for 71st at 7-over.
