The Auburn men's golf team has received a signed National Letter of Intent from a pair of high school seniors, head coach Nick Clinard has announced. Matthew Perrine of Austin, Texas, and Benjamin Schlottman of Advance, N.C., will both join the golf team for the 2014-15 season.
Perrine is a senior at Austin Westlake High School where he plays for coach Callan Nokes. A four-year varsity team member, he was a 2013 Rolex Junior All-American and a member of the 2012 and 2013 HP Scholastic Honor Roll. Ranked the No. 16 best prospect in the nation for the 2014 class by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and the No. 28 best prospect by GolfWeek/Sagarin Rankings, he had a 2013 AJGA scoring average of 71.75. He finished in the top six in all four AJGA tournaments he participated in in 2013, including a pair of top-three finishes. He also finished third in the prestigious AJGA PING Invitational this past October.
"Matthew is an exceptional talent that has achieved much success at the junior level," Clinard said. "He's been well coached and will have an easy transition to college golf. Matthew's an excellent student with loads of talent and we anticipate big things from him during his career at Auburn."
Schlottman, a senior at Forsyth Country Day, is a two-time US Junior participant and a four-time selection to the NCISAA all-state team. The winner of the 2013 Palmetto High School Championship at Sea Trail Golf Resort & Convention Center in Sunset Beach, N.C., he is ranked the No. 32 best prospect in the nation for the 2014 class by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard.
"Ben is an outstanding young man that has a tremendous amount of ability," Clinard said. "He's had success at the junior and amateur level and should provide an immediate impact at Auburn. He's a fantastic student and will represent Auburn with the highest integrity."
