The No. 23 Auburn men's golf team wraps up the fall portion of its schedule this weekend with a trip to the US Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga. The three-day tournament will be played on the 7,017-yard Lakeside Course.
"The US Collegiate is one, if not the best, tournament in the nation," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "We are looking forward to a great test and the Golf Club of Georgia is an excellent venue for a collegiate event. The team has worked diligently all fall and we've had numerous guys pushing for playing time. We continue to play a lot of freshmen and all of them are showing positive flashes while practicing and competing at home."
The five players competing for Auburn this weekend will be sophomore Jake Mondy, freshman Matt Gilchrest, senior Niclas Carlsson, junior Dan Stringfellow and freshman Victor Henum.
So far this fall Auburn has brought home a second-place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, a fifth-place finish at the Jerry Pate Invitational and a sixth-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
Mondy leads Auburn with a 72.11 stroke average while Gilchrest (72.33) and Henum (72.50) are right behind him. Mondy has been Auburn's top finisher at both the Carpet Capital Collegiate and the Wolf Run Intercollegiate while Carlsson took those honors at the Jerry Pate Invitational.
The rest of the US Collegiate field includes NO. 24 Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, No. 2 Georgia Tech, Iowa, No. 17 Kent State, No. 9 Oklahoma State, USC, No. 8 Stanford, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 13 UCLA, No. 16 Virginia, Wake Forest and No. 6 Washington.
