Auburn Men's Golf Moves Into 12th After Carpet Capital Collegiate Second Round

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - All five Auburn golfers improved from their opening day rounds as the Auburn men's golf team moved into 12th after firing a 3-under 285 in the Carpet Capital Collegiate second round at the par-72, 6,906-yard The Farm Golf Club Saturday. The Tigers improved by 12 shots from Friday's opening round 297.

Sophomore Glenn Northcutt followed his 73 Friday with a 2-under par 70 to move into a tie for 25th at 1-under 143. Senior Andrew Medley was also under par for the day, shooting a 1-under 71 and is tied for 30th at 145 while Junior Patton Kizzire jumped into a tie for 42nd with a second round 71 for a 2-over 146 total.

Junior Jay Moseley carded an even-par 72 for a 4-over 148 total followed by junior Gordon Strother, who fired a 1-over 73 and is tied for 56th at 149.

"We had a much better day today," head coach Mike Griffin said. "The course was right for the picking. I'm happy with the way we bounced back from yesterday. With another good day, we have a chance to move up again tomorrow."

No. 4 Clemson took the lead entering the final round with an 8-under 280 for an 18-under 558 total, three shots ahead of second place Alabama (285-561). No. 14 Florida had the low round of the day, firing a 12-under 276 and is in third with 569 total. Tennessee (281-571) is in fourth followed by No. 16 Georgia State (286-572), North Carolina State (287-572), No. 2 Georgia (278-573), No. 8 Georgia Tech (287-576), Augusta State (289-578), No. 9 Wake Forest (289-578), No. 17 East Tennessee State (289-579), Auburn (285-582), No. 12 Duke (295-584), Vanderbilt (294-584), TCU (288-587), No.23 Texas Tech (294-591), South Carolina (290-599) and Texas (305-612).

North Carolina State's Darren Blair held onto the lead with a 3-under 69 for a 10-under 134 total. Clemson's Vince Hatfield (70-136) is in second followed by Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow (69-137) in third. The third and final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament continues Sunday with the Tigers teeing off at 8:30 am central with Wake Forest and East Tennessee State.
