Former Auburn golfer Blayne Barber was named the 2013 NGA TOUR Rookie of the Year on Friday following four top-five finishes and two other top-15s in his inaugural season.
"When I got the call, it felt great," Barber said. "It's an honor to have my name on that award with so many great players. With the amount of competition on the NGA TOUR, you have to play really well to compete. It's a great place to play, stay sharp and get a gauge on how well you're playing."
Barber, who played at Auburn from 2010-2012, opened the NGA TOUR season with a pair of top-five finishes before picking up his second Pro Series win in the Savannah Lakes Village Classic in his third start of the season.
"Blayne continues to show why he holds the all-time scoring record at Auburn University," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "He has an outstanding future ahead and all of us associated with Auburn golf are excited for him."
In addition to his time on the NGA TOUR, Barber also excelled on the PGA and Web.com Tours in 2013, earning over $100,000 on the top two tours.
Barber's Auburn career included a 2012 single-season stroke average of 70.76 and a career stroke average of 70.83, both Auburn records.
