AUBURN - The 12th-ranked Auburn men's golf team begins the 2010-11 season Friday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
The 12-team tournament field includes 10 teams ranked in the Golf World preseason top-35.
"This is one of the top tournaments in the nation throughout the course of the season," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "To open up at the Carpet Capital provides a strong test early on in the year. The Farm is a fantastic course. Our guys have a lot of combined experience on there and are excited to start off the season on a positive note."
Sophomore Blayne Barber, ranked as a preseason top-five individual by Golf World Magazine, will lead the Tigers in the No. 1 position. The Lake City, Fla., native is currently ranked 18th in the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings.
The Tigers' returning low scorer from the 2009-10 season, Will McCurdy will play the No. 2 spot, followed by Florida State transfer Michael Hebert, 2009-10 SEC All-Freshman selection David Zickler and second-team All-SEC junior Kyle Kopsick.
The Carpet Capital, hosted by 10th-ranked Georgia Tech, will play host to Auburn, No. 4 Georgia, No. 15 Alabama, No. 17 Clemson, No. 21 Texas Tech, No. 24 South Carolina, No. 27 Tennessee, No. 31 ETSU, No. 33 Ole Miss, Chattanooga and Wake Forest.
