CANONSBURG, Pa. - Former Auburn golfer Gary Christian moved into fourth on the Nationwide Tour money list Sunday, carding a final round 67 to win the Mylan Classic to finish at 17-under for the event. The result, which advanced him 23 spots on the money list, places the class of 1995 graduate in prime position to earn his 2012 PGA Tour card. "I think it was meant to be this week," said Christian. "Walking down the fairway today I was thinking it's just my time." Should Christian complete the remaining seven Nationwide events while maintaining his top-25 position on the money list, he will earn a spot on the 2012 PGA Tour. The Carshalton, England native has competed in 159 Nationwide Tour events dating back to 1998. "It's like a dream come true," said an emotional Christian after the event. Christian made his move on Friday, shooting an 8-under 63 to jump up the leaderboard. Closing the event with rounds of 69 and 67, Christian edged out former Long Beach State golfer John Mallinger by a single stroke. The win was his second on the Nationwide Tour after winning the 2009 Northeast Pennsylvania Classic in a Tour record tying nine-hole playoff over Mathias Gronberg. In all, Christian has earned 14 top-10s and 49 top-25s on Tour. Former Tiger Lee Williams was also playing the Mylan alongside Christian after a string of solid Hooters Tour play gave Williams an exemption into the event. The Alex City, Ala., native finished tied for 45th.
