AUBURN -- The Auburn men’s golf team has excelled on the amateur circuit this summer highlighted by redshirt freshman Ryan Benton and incoming freshman Victor Wiggins, who qualified for the US Amateur.

In addition to winning the Florida Amelia Island US Amateur Qualifier, Benton finished fifth at the Greystone Invitational and 27th at the Northern Amateur. Wiggins, who won the North Carolina Rocky Mount US Amateur qualifier, also notched a top-5 finish at the North Carolina Amateur.

Junior Michael Johnson won the Alabama State Amateur and Dogwood Invitational while also placing 15th at the Northeast Amateur, 20th at the Porter Cup and 33rd at the Southern Amateur.

Senior Niclas Carlsson represented Sweden at the European Team Championship and recorded a top-10 finish at the British Amateur.

Incoming freshman Matt Gilchrist started the summer with a victory at the prestigious FJ Invitational, before finishing third at the Rolex Tournament of Champions and fifth at the Thunderbird Invitational. The Southlake, Texas native also finished 11th at the Northern Amateur.

Freshman Will Long was runner-up at the Carolina Juniors Championship and placed third at the Azalea Amateur. Sophomore Jake Mondy, who was the defending champion, advanced to the semifinals of the Virginia State Amateur.
