Nine Tigers Attempting U.S. Amateur Qualification At The AU Club

Auburn, Ala. - Four current and five former Auburn golfers will be teeing off in the August 4 U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifier held at the par-72, 7,326-yard Auburn University Club at Yarbrough Farms. Auburn senior Keith White and redshirt freshman Cory Gilmer, as well as incoming freshmen Jackson Beindorf and Will McCurdy, will attempt advancement to the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship held at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., August 18-24. Former Tigers Joey Davis, Tobin Ayers, Gordon Strother, Will Swift and Auburn graduate assistant Jay Moseley will also be competing at the AU Club sectional. Junior Cole Moreland and incoming freshman Kyle Kopsick have already advanced through sectionals following second place finishes at the Keller, Texas and Watertown, Wis., qualifiers. Both Moreland and Kopsick finished one shot off the lead. Also competing in August 4 U.S. Amateur qualifiers are All-SEC senior Glenn Northcutt, redshirt freshman Jonathan Fly and incoming freshman David Zickler. Northcutt will appear at The Standard Cub of Atlanta while Fly and Zickler will play The Colonial in Memphis. The U.S. Amateur, which has no age restriction and is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. The tournament consists of two days of stroke play, with the leading 64 competitors then playing a knockout competition held at match play to decide the champion.
