Incoming Freshman Victor Wiggins Qualifies for US Amateur

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Auburn incoming freshman golfer Victor Wiggins qualified for the 2013 US Amateur on Monday after winning the sectional qualifying held at Benvenue Country Club. In the 36-hole event, Wiggins finished with an 8-under 136, highlighted by an 5-under 67 in the final round.

Wiggins began the second round with a birdie on No. 1, before moving to 5-under for the tournament with a birdie on the par-4 No. 5. The Gastonia, N.C., native then reeled off three-straight birdies on Nos. 6, 7 and 8 to move to 8-under.

After making the turn, Wiggins birdied No. 10 prior to recording his 12th birdie of the tournament on No. 12. After a birdie on No. 14, Wiggins bogeyed No. 17 to finish the round at 5-under.

The US Amateur Championship begins August 12th at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.
