AUBURN - The Auburn men's golf team will have nine current members competing at 2010 U.S Amateur sectional qualifiers, spread over five states and six courses.

Rising sophomore Blayne Barber will compete Monday through Tuesday at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Florida.  Ranked 26th in the Scratch Players Amateur World Rankings, Barber recently placed third at the Southern Amateur in Birmingham.

Rising juniors John Stembridge and Cory Gilmer, alongside incoming freshman Blake Soni, are set for Tuesday and Wednesday for the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta.

"It's always tough to make it out of these qualifiers," said Stembridge.  "There are going to be a ton of great college players there and a bunch of great amateurs fighting for just a few spots.

"The Piedmont is a beautiful course.  It's a good test but it's real fun to play at the same time."

Rising sophomore Jackson Beindorf and incoming transfer Michael Hebert will compete Monday and Tuesday at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.  Beindorf advanced to the opening round of 2009 U.S. Amateur match-play after shooting 2-over (74-72--146) during stroke play.

Rising junior Kyle Kopsick and incoming freshman Dan Stringfellow will compete Monday and Tuesday at the Cantigney Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill., while rising sophomore Dominic Bozzelli will look to advance out the Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora, N.Y.

Rising junior Will McCurdy will attempt qualification August 2-3 at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, MS.  McCurdy advanced to stroke play at the 2009 US Amateur through the same course.

"You are going to have to play you're best anywhere you go when you make it to sectionals," said McCurdy.  "I'm pretty confident on this course. I qualified here last year which gives me an extra boost of confidence. No matter what, you have to shoot two really good rounds of golf to advance.  It would be huge for me to make it again this year."
