ATLANTA – Auburn rising junior Michael Johnson won the 2013 Dogwood Invitational on Saturday after shooting a 28-under 260 at the Druid Hills Golf Club. Johnson edged out Ollie Schniederjans by seven strokes.
“I couldn’t have played any better,” Johnson said. “I only had one double bogey and two bogeys the whole tournament. The last two rounds I didn’t have any mistakes. I got up and down and didn’t have a bad shot. My short game was very good.”
Johnson, who shot a 9-under 63 on Friday, eagled the par-5 No. 7, before carding a birdie on No. 9, making the turn at 3-under for the round. On the back-9, the Birmingham, Ala., native reeled off three-straight birdies on Nos. 10, 11 and 12 before another birdie on No. 14. Johnson closed out the round with a birdie on No. 18 to finish the round with an 8-under 64.
The victory marks Johnson’s second win this summer after winning the Alabama State Amateur Tournament on June 9.
