Auburn Golf’s Michael Johnson, Jacob Solomon named All-Southeast Region

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn senior Michael Johnson and freshman Jacob Solomon were named to the PING All-Southeast Region team, announced the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Johnson, who was a first-team All-SEC selection, had a remarkable season being a Ben Hogan Award semifinalist, on the Haskins Award Watch List and was selected to the United States team for the Arnold Palmer Cup in the annual Ryder Cup-style competition vs. Europe June 24-26 at Formby Golf Club in Formby, England.

Johnson, who ranked sixth in the country in the Golfstat Cup, won a school record three tournaments this season as he broke the Auburn single-season stroke average record at 70.37.

His three victories in the Primland Collegiate, Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate and the Schenkel Invitational are the most in a season in school history and his five career wins are second only to Jimmy Green’s six. His stroke average ranked second in the SEC and sixth nationally.

The Birmingham, Ala., native was a second-team All-SEC selection last year and a Freshman All-SEC pick.

Solomon had a 71.91 stroke average and counted all 23 rounds played in earning Freshman All-SEC honors. The Dublin, Calif., native had four top-13 finishes, tying for 10th at the Carpet Capital, 11th at the Jerry Pate National, 12th at the Primland and 13th at the Seminole. Solomon tied for 18th at the SEC Championship.
