Auburn junior Patton Kizzire was named Golfweek Player of the Week Wednesday after winning the SEC individual championship last weekend in Sea Island, Ga.
Kizzire earned his first career tournament victory with 72-69-70--211, joining Jimmy Green (1991), Bryant MacKellar (1997) and Roland Thatcher (2000) as Auburn's SEC champions.
"It feels great for this to be such a big tournament and to be such a big win," Kizzire said. "It's kind of a double-bonus. Beating all of the guys in the SEC is a feat in itself. It is a great accomplishment for me."
The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native led Auburn to a third place finish in the SEC Championship, the eighth straight year the Tigers have finished in the SEC's top-five.
"I couldn't be prouder of Patton," head coach Mike Griffin said. "He played great golf, obviously. He was a competitor. He was cool, calm and collected. He was a champion."
Kizzire has a 72.97 stroke average and leads the team with 11 sub-par rounds. He has recorded seven career top-10 finishes.
NCAA East (Atlanta, Ga.), Central (Sugar Grove, Ill.), and West (Tempe, Ariz.) Regionals will be played May 17-19. Bids will be announced May 7.
