AUBURN -- The No. 20 Auburn men's golf team will play in the 2013 SEC Championship Friday through Sunday at the Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course in St. Simon's Island, Ga.
The field features eight teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, including No. 2 Alabama, No. 12 Florida, No. 13 Georgia, No. 14 Arkansas, No. 15 LSU, No. 21 Texas A&M and No. 24 Tennessee.
"Sea Island has been a wonderful venue for our conference championship for many years," head coach Nick Clinard said. "The guys are excited about competing, and we look forward to the challenge this weekend."
Senior Michael Hebert, who will play in the No. 1 spot for the Tigers, has a team-low 72.85 stroke average, which ranks 15th in the SEC. Hebert has compiled two top-5 and four top-20 finishes including a runner-up finish at The McLaughlin.
Sophomore Michael Johnson is in the No. 2 position and is coming off a tie for 12th at the Gary Koch Invitational. Johnson, who is second on the team in scoring at 73.03, has posted a team-high five top-20 finishes this season along with 10 sub-par rounds.
Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy is in the third spot for Auburn and closed out the season with a tie for 16th at the Gary Koch Invitational. Mondy won his first event of his career at The McLaughlin with an 8-under 202, and has five top-25 finishes this year and leads the team with five rounds in the 60s.
Junior Niclas Carlsson, who will be in the fourth position, won his third career individual title at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate with a 4-under 212. Carlsson finished runner-up at the Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner.
Rounding out the Tigers' lineup is senior Dominic Bozzelli, who won his third career tournament to begin the spring at the Amer Ari Invitational. Bozzelli, who is third on the team in scoring at 73.30, tied for second at the Samford Intercollegiate. Bozzelli has five top-20 finishes and has five rounds in the 60s.
Last season, the Tigers finished as the runner-up in the SEC Championship at 6-under.
