The 20th-ranked Auburn men's golf team plays the first of two tournaments this week beginning with the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,906-yard Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas, Monday and Tuesday.
Sophomore Glenn Northcutt, who has a team-best 72.06 stroke average, will lead the Tigers in the No. 1 position. Junior Patton Kizzire (72.67) occupies the No. 2 position followed by juniors Jay Moseley (72.94) at No. 3 and Jamie Bowen (72.50), who led Auburn with a seventh place finish in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational last week, in the No. 4 slot. Senior Andrew Medley (74.41) returns to the lineup in the No. 5 position.
"Just like the Schenkel, this tournament has a quality field," head coach Mike Griffin said. "We have been playing well, and we'll have to continue that if we are going to contend for the title. None of our guys have played in this tournament before so that will be a challenge for us."
Seven ranked teams are in the 14-team field including No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 8 UNLV, No. 12 BYU, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 18 Tulsa, No. 20 Auburn, host and No. 23 Texas, Kent State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU and Texas Tech.
After playing 54 holes in two days, Auburn will travel to Augusta, Ga., Wednesday to play a practice round March 29 for the Administaff Augusta State Invitational March 30 - April 1.
