No. 20 Auburn Looks to Defend Title at Hootie at Bulls Bay

AUBURN – The No. 20 Auburn men’s golf team will play in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the Bulls Bay Golf Club Sunday through Tuesday in Awendaw, S.C. The Tigers swept the tournament last season, defeating Virginia by nine strokes, and were led by medalist Niclas Carlsson with a 5-under 211.

Joining Auburn at the Hootie at Bulls Bay are No. 11 Duke, No. 12 LSU, No. 21 Clemson, No. 25 Wake Forest, Augusta State, College of Charleston, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Virginia and Wisconsin.

“We are looking forward to another great challenge at the Bulls Bay Golf Club,” head coach Nick Clinard said. “The golf course is fantastic, and is always in great shape. It will be a test for our guys, which we will be ready for.”

Senior Dominic Bozzelli is in the No. 1 position for the Tigers as the Pittsford, N.Y., native has compiled five top-20 finishes this season, including a win at the Amer Ari Invitational. Bozzelli, who ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 73.11, is third on the team in rounds at par or better with nine and second on the team with rounds in the 60s with four.

Sophomore Michael Johnson will be in the No. 2 spot, coming off a tie for 25th finish at the Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner. Johnson, who has finished in the top-25 in every tournament this spring, leads the team in scoring at 72.92 and sub-par rounds with eight.

Junior Niclas Carlsson will look to continue his stellar spring season and will play in the No. 3 position. Carlsson has recorded three-straight top-15 finishes which includes a win at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and a runner-up finish at the Tiger Invitational.

Senior Michael Hebert is in the fourth spot after tying for 22nd at the Tiger Invitational. Hebert, who leads the team in rounds at par or better with 11, is second on the team in scoring at 72.96.

Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy rounds out the Tiger lineup in the fifth position. Mondy tied for 22nd at the Tiger Invitational while playing as an individual and also placed second in the South Alabama Individual Tournament after shooting a 2-over 144.
