The Hootie at Bulls Bay Tournament Notes
AUBURN - No. 14 Auburn will compete in the 2008 Hootie at Bulls Bay at the par-71, 7,282-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., March 23-25. Bulls Bay G.C. and the 2-time Grammy award-winning band, Hootie & the Blowfish, host the annual tournament, which had its groundbreaking event in 2005.
Senior Jay Moseley will lead the Tigers in the No. 1 position. Junior Glenn Northcutt will be at No. 2. Seniors Jamie Bowen, Patton Kizzire and Gordon Strother start at Nos. 3,4 and 5, respectively.
The 15-team field, featuring seven schools ranked in the March 17 Golfweek top-25, includes No. 14 Auburn, No. 9 Florida, No. 12 Duke, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 18 Central Florida, No. 21 Clemson, Augusta State, Baylor, Charleston, Kentucky, Lamar, LSU, NC State and Virginia Tech.
"This tournament is always a lot of fun," said head coach Mike Griffin. "They really know how to put on a great event over here."
After leading the Tigers in five consecutive tournaments, including three top-five finishes, Moseley was ranked 23rd in the latest Golfweek Collegiate Individual rankings. Currently, Moseley leads all Tigers in strokes average (70.95), sub-par rounds (11) and rounds in the 60s (7).
Competing in the event are 10 players listed in Golfweek's top-50 collegiate golfers including Wake Forest's Webb Simpson (No. 16), Florida's Billy Horschel (No. 21), Auburn's Jay Moseley (No. 23), Florida's Tyler Brown (No. 30) and Manuel Villegas (No. 32), Duke's Michael Schachner (No. 34), South Carolina's George Bryan IV (No. 40), NC State's Matt Hill (No. 42), South Carolina's Mark Anderson (No. 45) and Wake Forest's Brendan Gielow (No. 50).
