Auburn junior Michael Johnson has been named the Alabama Golf Association 2013 Player of the Year.
Johnson, who is redshirting this season, won the 37th Men's Alabama State Amateur Championship after shooting a 16-under 272 at the Hoover Country Club in early June. He followed that up with a win at the Dogwood Invitational, shooting a 28-under 260 at the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta in late June. He also posted top-20s in the Northeast Amateur and the Porter Cup before an injury curtailed his season.
"Being named amateur golfer of the year in the state of Alabama is quite an honor," Auburn coach Nick Clinard said. "Michael is an exceptional player and outstanding young man. We are extremely proud of him and all his accomplishments."
Johnson, who finished with 1,065, beat out Sam Love (1,030 points) and Robby Shelton IV (867 points) for the award.
