    RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico -- Former Auburn golfer Will Claxton notched his first top-10 finish of his early PGA Tour career after shooting a 8-under, 276, at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at El Camaleon in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

    Claxton was in the lead after the first round after carding a 5-under 66. The 2005 graduate followed up Thursday’s round 3-under 68 on Friday to keep him in the hunt. On Saturday, Claxton dropped to third place following an even 71 third round.

    In the final round on Sunday, Claxton fired a 3-under 33 on the front nine to put him at 11-under for the tournament. On the back nine, the Swainsboro, Ga., native double bogeyed on No. 14 and bogeyed on No. 18 to the tournament at 8-under.

    Also in the field was former Tiger Gary Christian who finished tied for 49th after firing a 3-under 68 in the final round.
