Niclas Carlsson looks to defend his individual title from a year ago
The Auburn golf team will look to win the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate for a second straight season when it tees off at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course at Mobile, Ala., on Monday morning. Auburn won last year's tournament with a three-round minus-3, led by individual winner Niclas Carlsson's 4-under, 212.
"We are looking forward to defending our team and individual championship this week in Mobile," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "The golf course is a very good test and it's a wonderful opportunity to play a lot of players to see what they can do in a tournament as opposed to qualifying at home. We look forward to competing and bringing some hardware home Tuesday evening."
Competing for Auburn will be Jake Mondy, Matt Gilchrest, Carlsson, Dan Stringfellow and Will Long.
Auburn shot 285-292-284--861 last year as Carlsson shot 71-71-70--212 on the par-71, 7,158-yard course. The tournament is played over two days with 36 holes being contested on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and the final 18 being played on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Auburn placed sixth in the Amer Ari Invitational last week at the Waikoloa Kings' Course at Waikoloa, Hawaii, shooting a 274-279-283--836 (minus-28). Mondy was Auburn's top finisher in Hawaii with a 68-70-68--206 (minus-10).
Auburn goes into the event ranked No. 27 and will be one of four top-50 teams in the 15-team tournament, which also includes No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 36 Kentucky and No. 41 Memphis.
Competing as individuals from Auburn will be Ryan Benton, Victor Henum, Blake Messer and Victor Wiggins.
