AUBURN – The No. 2 Auburn men’s golf team will tee off the spring season at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., at the par-70, 6,700-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course in a field that features nine of the 14 teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest Golfworld/Nike Golf Division I coaches poll, including two other top-10 teams, Arkansas and North Florida.
“We are excited to get the spring started this weekend,” head coach Nick Clinard said. “We are looking forward to the challenge of continuing to improve all spring and competing for championships.”
Junior Blayne Barber will be in the top spot for the Tigers after finishing tied for third at the U.S. Collegiate. The Ben Hogan Award Watch List member is currently ranked as the 10th best amateur in the world by the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings.
Jackson Beindorf will play in the No. 2 position, and freshman Michael Johnson will be playing in the No. 3 slot. Johnson is tied for first on the team in sub-par rounds with four, and is second on the team in putts per round with 30.5.
Junior Dominic Bozzelli will be looking to continue his strong play in the No. 4 position after finishing the fall season with medalist honors at the U.S. Collegiate. The Pittsford, N.Y., native leads the team in scoring average (71.33) and GIR (76.5).
Michael Hebert rounds out the Tigers’ five-man lineup, while sophomore Niclas Carlsson will be playing as an individual.
