DALTON, Ga. -- The 21st-ranked Auburn men's golf team shot a 13-over par 301 Friday and is in 13th place after the first round of Carpet Capital Collegiate at the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Course.
Senior All-SEC Stuart Moore carded an even-par 72 to lead the Tigers as he is tied for 14th, five strokes behind Georgia's Chris Kirk, who holds the individual lead at 5-under 69. Junior Andrew Medley shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 27th followed by sophomore Jay Moseley, who carded a 77 and is tied for 57th. Freshman Glenn Northcutt had a 78 and is tied for 66th while sophomore Steven Groover is tied for 82nd with an 80.
"We got off to a slow start," head coach Mike Griffin said.
"I'm happy with the way Stuart played. He's been getting off to a slow start in the previous tournaments, so it was good to see him play a solid round. This tournament is loaded with the top teams, so tomorrow we are going to try to make up some ground."
No. 7 Florida leads the field after posting a 6-under 282, two shots ahead of No. 17 Georgia State (284). No. 5 Duke is in third at even-par 288 followed by top-ranked Georgia (289), Texas Tech (292), No.
19 Clemson (293), East Tennessee State (295), No. 15 Augusta State (297), N.C. State (299), No. 6 Tennessee (300), Georgia Southern (300), No. 20 South Carolina (300), No. 21 Auburn (301), No. 21 Alabama (303), Oklahoma (304), No. 2 Georgia Tech (305), TCU (307) and Vanderbilt (310).
