Carlsson Leads Auburn In First Round Of US Collegiate

Niclas Carlsson shot an even-par 72 with four birdies to lead the No. 23 Auburn men's golf team in the first round of the US Collegiate Championship. Auburn is in 14th place in the event, which is being played on the Lakeside Course at The Golf Club of Georgia.

Carlsson, who is tied for 25th, carded three front-9 birdies, doing it on the par-4 second, fifth and eighth holes to finish the front nine at minus-3.

Jake Mondy had the next low-score for Auburn, finishing at plus-2 after collecting birdies on the final hole of both the front and back nine. Matt Gilchrest and Victor Henum each had two birdies while finishing plus-3 and plus-4, respectively. Daniel Stringfellow rounded out the Auburn contingent, finishing at plus-5.

Auburn as a team shot a plus-9, 297 and has two rounds left to make up ground in the 15-team field.
