Auburn Men's Golf Tied For Sixth After First Two Rounds Of Shoal Creek Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM - The Auburn men's golf team carded a 15-over 300-291--591 and is tied for sixth after playing the first two rounds Monday in the 15-team Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at Birmingham's par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Golf Club.

Sophomore Glenn Northcutt fired a pair of 1-over 73s and is tied for 17th at 2-over 146. Junior Patton Kizzire shot a 77 in the morning's first round but rebounded with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon to tie for 20th at 3-over 147. Senior Andrew Medley had a 73-76--149 and is tied for 25th while sophomore Jake Nolen is tied for 37th at 77-74--151. Junior Jay Moseley shot a 78-74--152 and is tied for 46th.

The Tigers were in ninth after the morning round with a 12-over 300 but rebounded with a 3-over 291 in the afternoon. No. 10 Alabama fired an even-par 288-288--576 and holds a nine shot lead over Central Florida (295-290--585).

"I am happy with the way we came back in the second round," head coach Mike Griffin said. "We would have liked to have played that way in the morning round but we got off to a slow start. Glenn had a solid day, and I'm proud of Patton for putting together a 70."

Florida State (293-294--587) and Tennessee (290-297--587) are tied for third followed by Michigan State (296-293--589), Auburn (300-291--591), North Carolina State (296-295--591), LSU (305-290--595), Baylor (301-295--596), SMU (294-303--597), host UAB (298-301--599), Virginia (306-297--603), Georgia Southern (305-299--604), North Florida (305-301--606) and Samford (304-307--611).

Alabama's Gator Todd (68-73--141) and Florida State's Matt Savage (69-72--141) are tied for the individual lead, one stroke ahead of LSU's Brian Noonan (74-68--142).

 

 

Auburn will tee off in Tuesday's final round off the No. 1 tee at 9 am Central with Michigan State and Tennessee.
