Sept. 23, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 25 Auburn men's golf team jumped three spots to finish sixth in the Shoal Creek Invitational by shooting a final round of 293 for an 895 total at the par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club on Tuesday. Auburn's 5-over third round total was the second lowest team total on the day. "I'm real proud of the way our guys never gave up on this one," said head coach Mike Griffin. "They came out and did what they had to do to regain some of the ground we lost in the second round. We left a lot of shots out ther but overall, I'm happy. "Glenn has really stepped up like we needed him to these first two tournaments. Shoal Creek is a challenging course and I'm happy with the way John (Stembridge) and Kyle (Kopsick) played. John shot even par to make the top-20 in the final round. He's getting off to a great start." Senior Glenn Northcutt (70-221) tied for 11th, freshman John Stembridge (72-224) tied for 18th, freshman Kyle Kopsick (79-227) tied for 31st, redshirt freshman Cory Gilmer (75-228) tied for 34th and junior Cole Moreland (76-229) tied for 36th.
