Northcutt Cards 3-Under 69; Tied For Second

    Sept. 12, 2008

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The Auburn men's golf team shot a 296 and is tied for ninth, nine shots behind leader East Tennessee State, after the Carpet Capital Collegiate first round at the par 72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club Friday.

Senior Glenn Northcutt (69) leads all Tigers in a four-way tie for second. Freshman Kyle Kopsick (74) is tied for 29th, junior Cole Moreland (76) is tied for 50th, freshman John Stembridge (77) is tied for 64th and senior Keith White (79) is tied for 83rd.

"I saw more good than I did bad today," said head coach Mike Griffin. "For Kyle to shoot 2-over with two double-bogeys - I'm happy. This tournament doesn't usually lend well to rookies.

"Glenn (Northcutt) had an awful good day today. If we come out tomorrow and shoot well, we can get right back in the hunt."

    No. 14 East Tennessee State (287) is in the lead followed by Central Florida (289), No. 30 Ole Miss (290), No. 7 Clemson (291), No. 12 UT-Chattanooga (291), No. 13 South Carolina (294), No. 22 Tennessee (294), No. 20 Alabama (295), No. 15 Wake Forest (296), Auburn (296), No. 17 Texas Tech (298), No. 1 Georgia (299), No. 28 Mississippi St. (299), No. 10 Georgia Tech (299), UAB (299), No. 26 North Carolina (300), No. 6 Florida (304) and Georgia State (308).
