No. 12 Auburn Tied For Sixth At The Carpet Capital
Sept. 11, 2010
ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The 12th-ranked Auburn men's golf team (290-575) finished Saturday's second round tied for sixth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
Sophomore Blayne Barber (68-135) remains in first place heading into Sunday's final round, holding a one-stroke lead over Wake Forest's Evan Beck.
Sophomore Michael Hebert (72-145) is tied for 18th, followed by junior Will McCurdy (74-147) tied in 30th, junior Kyle Kopsick (76-149) in 38th and sophomore David Zickler (79-151) tied for 45th.
"We had couple three putts on the back nine that cost us," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "As a team, we just gave away too many shots late in the round. You can't do that at an event like this with the kind of competition we are facing this weekend.
"Blayne (Barber) had another strong day. He was 5-under with five holes to play. He had two good looks at birdie at the end. A poor tee shot on 17 led to a bogie but other than that, his round was very strong."
Barber also leads the 60-player field in par-4 scoring average, averaging 3.75 strokes per attempt. As a team, the Tigers currently top the field in par-5 scoring average, led by Kopsick (4.38), Barber (4.5) and Hebert (4.5).
No. 23 Clemson (283-566) finished Saturday with a one-stroke lead over No. 7 Alabama (287-567) followed by No. 17 Georgia Tech (284-571), No. 3 Georgia (284-572), Wake Forest (284-573), Auburn, Chattanooga (285-575), No. 24 Tennessee (288-582), No. 22 Texas Tech (284-584), South Carolina (297-595), Ole Miss (286-597) and ETSU (302-597).
The Tigers tee off the front nine Sunday at 8 a.m. EST with Georgia and Wake Forest. Live scoring will be made available via www.GolfStat.com.
