AUBURN, Ala. - Niclas Carlsson will go into the final round of the NCAA Golf Regional tied for fourth, two shots off the lead following an even-par 72 in Friday's second round at the Auburn University Golf Club. As a team Auburn moved up a spot into second.

"I'm not sure I've ever seen the wind blow like it is today but the guys hung in there today," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "They got off to a rough start, played solid and then 8 and 9 gave us fits again today. We have to play those holes better tomorrow. Those are going to be key for us. Hopefully we just keep the same attitude tomorrow and are ready to rock and roll."

Carlsson (70-72--142) had one birdie and one bogey in the round and trails leaders Kelby Burton (73-67--140) of Kennesaw State and Corey Whitsett (71-69--140) of Alabama by two strokes going into Saturday's round.

Will Long (74-73--147) is tied for 16th at plus-3 following a second round 73. Long shot plus-1 on the front nine and even-par on the back nine with a pair of birdies and bogeys.

"The wind really played a factor today," Long said. "Par was a really good score today. I just tried to keep it in the fairway and play conservative. Aggressive play, you really couldn't do that today. We have to go out there tomorrow and do the same thing we did today, play a solid round and we should have a good chance."

Jake Mondy (75-74--149) is tied for 30th at plus-5 while Matt Gilchrest (75-77--152) is tied for 42nd at plus-8. Daniel Stringfellow (81-73--154) is tied for 51st at plus-10.

Top-ranked Alabama leads the tournament at 5-under (287-284--571). Auburn is second at plus-10 (294-292--586), Kennesaw State is third at plus-12 (297-291--588), Virginia Tech is fourth at plus-16 (301-291--592) and Texas (293-300--593) and BYU (299-294--593) are tied for fifth.

"Our goal is always to improve and finish as high as we can," Clinard said. "Second is better than third and third is better than fourth."

The top five teams and the highest-scoring individual not on a team advance to the NCAA Championships.

Saturday's final round begins at 7:30 a.m. CT. Auburn will tee off on the first tee at 8:40 a.m. along with Alabama and Kennesaw State.
