No. 20 Auburn Men's Golf in Third After SEC Championship Second Round

ST. SIMON’S ISLAND, Ga. – The No. 20 Auburn men’s golf team is in third after shooting a 9-over 289 in the second round of the SEC Championship held at the Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course on Saturday.

Auburn is nine strokes behind South Carolina (276--555) and six strokes behind No. 2 Alabama (275--558). No. 21 Texas A&M is in fourth at 566, while No. 13 Georgia rounds out the top-5 at 570. Mississippi State is in sixth at 572, followed by Vanderbilt (282--577), Arkansas (280--577), Missouri (290--592), No. 15 LSU (296--584), No. 9 Florida (289--590), No. 24 Tennessee (293--592), Ole Miss (295--592) and Kentucky (302--593).

“We struggled a little at the start today, but the guys hung in there to the end,” head coach Nick Clinard said. “We are really close to putting a great round together and tomorrow should be a lot of fun.”

Senior Michael Hebert is tied for fifth at 1-under for the tournament. Hebert doubled bogeyed No. 2 and bogeyed Nos. 3 and 5 to make the turn at 4-over, but birdied the 585-yard par-5 15 to finish at 3-over. The Orlando, Fla, native is seven strokes behind South Carolina’s Caleb Spurgeon.

Junior Niclas Carlsson is tied for eighth at even par, following a 4-over 74. Carlsson bogeyed No. 4 before a double bogey on No. 5 to finish the front-nine at 3-over. Carlsson bogeyed No. 10, before carding pars on the final eight holes.

Senior Dominic Bozzelli and sophomore Michael Johnson are tied for 19th at 3-over. Bozzelli bogeyed the first hole, but birdied No. 7 to make the turn at even. On the back-nine, Bozzelli bogeyed No. 14, but birdied the par-3 17 to finish at even.

Johnson carded back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5, but closed out the front-nine with a birdie on No. 9. Following a bogey on No. 10, the Birmingham, Ala, native birdied No. 13, but bogeyed Nos. 14 and 16 to finish at 3-over.

Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy is tied for 47th at 9-over after shooting a 3-over 73. After making the turn at even par, Mondy bogeyed No. 10 before a birdie on No. 11. Following a bogey on No. 12, Mondy closed the round with bogeys on Nos. 14 and 18.
