No. 6 Auburn men’s golf in 5th after SEC Championship 2nd round, Gilchrest 2nd

SEA ISLAND, Ga. – No. 6 Auburn men’s golf carded a day-tying low 3-over 283 on Saturday at the Seaside Golf Course to improve eight strokes and climb to fifth. All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest is in second at 1-under 68-71—139, one stroke behind Georgia's Lee McCoy (68-70—138).

The Tigers (291-283—574) are eight strokes back from leader Kentucky (277-289—566).

Gilchrest, a native of Southlake, Texas, eagled No. 15 as part of his 1-over 71 second round to take sole possession of second. All-SEC senior Michael Johnson (75-69—144) and freshman Jacob Solomon (74-70—144) each made up some ground on Saturday and are t-18th at 4-over.

Johnson, who was recently named to the USA’s Palmer Cup team, birdied Nos. 1, 4, 6, 7 and 8 as part of his 2-under 69.

All-America sophomore Ben Schlottman is t-33rd at 7-over 74-73—147 while senior Jake Mondy is a stroke back at 8-over 75-73—148 and t-41st.

No. 4 Georgia is in second at 8-over 277-291—568 followed by Texas A&M (287-283—570), No. 23 Arkansas (288-283—571), Auburn, No. 18 Florida (285-290—575), Tennessee (286-292—578), No. 14 LSU (294-286—580), No. 7 Vanderbilt (286-294—580) and Missouri (289-292—581).

No. 13 South Carolina and No. 17 Alabama are tied for 11that 586 followed by Ole Miss (301-298—599) and Mississippi State (304-298—602).
