TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 21 Auburn men’s golf team carded a 4-over 292 on Tuesday to finish in third at 4-under at the Gary Koch Invitational held at the Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla. Senior Michael Hebert and sophomore Michael Johnson led the Tigers, tying for 12th.
No. 19 Florida State won the tournament at 23-under and defeated No. 11 Georgia Tech by seven strokes. No. 12 Florida finished in fourth at 2-over while No. 25 Wake Forest placed fifth at 9-over. Florida State’s Rowin Caron and Georgia Tech’s Bo Andrews won the individual title at 9-under.
“We played well overall on a very tough golf course today,” Clinard said. “We were one more good round away from having a great round.”
Johnson and Hebert led the way, shooting a 1-under 215 as Hebert notched his fifth top-20 finish of the season after shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round. Johnson earned his team-high sixth top-20 finish, following a 3-over 75.
Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy tied for 16th at even par for his third top-20 finish of the season. Senior Dominic Bozzelli also earned his sixth top-20 finish after tying for 19th at 2-over.
Junior Niclas Carlsson tied for 23rd at 3-over following a 1-over 73, while senior David Zickler, who participated as an individual, tied for 53rd at 12-over.
The finish marks the 25th time the Tigers have finished in the top-3 under head coach Nick Clinard.
The Tigers will return to action April 19-21 for the SEC Championship held at the Seaside Golf Club in Seaside Island, Ga.
