No. 21 Auburn in Third After Second Round at the Gary Koch

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 21 Auburn men’s golf team is in third at 8-under par after the first and second rounds on Monday at the Gary Koch Invitational at the Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.

The Tigers trail No. 19 Florida State by 13 strokes and No. 11 Georgia Tech by 12. No. 12 Florida is in fourth at 3-under while No. 25 Wake Forest rounds out the top-five at 2-over.

“I thought the guys played well from tee to green for the most part,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. “We continue to putt poorly and need to continue to improve is this vastly important area of the game. I'm proud of the team and the direction they are headed as a group. Tomorrow should be a fun day.”

Sophomore Michael Johnson paces the Tigers with 4-under 140 and is tied for fifth. Johnson shot a 71 in the first round and followed with a 69 in the afternoon. The Birmingham, Ala native is four strokes behind co-leaders Rowin Caron of Florida State and Georgia Tech’s Shun Yat Hak.

Senior Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 13th at 2-under. After shooting a 1-over 73 in the first round, Bozzelli rebounded with a 3-under 69. Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy is tied for 18th at 1-under. In the first round, Mondy carded a 73, but shot a 70 in the second round.

Senior Michael Hebert is tied for 20th at even par while junior Niclas Carlsson is tied for 29th at 2-over. Senior David Zickler, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 41st at 4-over.

The Tigers will tee off Tuesday at 8:25 a.m. CDT with Georgia Tech and Florida State.
