AWENDAW, S.C. – The No. 20 Auburn men’s golf team finished in eighth at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Tigers shot a 32-over 896 for the tournament.
No. 11 Duke won the team title, finishing at 10-over par, defeating North Carolina State by three strokes. No. 25 Wake Forest placed third at 20-over followed by Missouri and No. 12 LSU, to round out the top five. North Carolina State’s Logan Harrell won the individual title at 3-under.
“We played well most of the day but just didn't finish the round,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. “We showed flashes of playing great, but couldn't put it together in any of the three rounds.”
Senior Michael Hebert led the Tigers with his fourth top-20 finish of the season, tying for 14th at 4-over. Hebert, who started the day on hole 8, quickly moved to 2-under with birdies on Nos. 9 and 11. Following a bogey on 13, Hebert birdied Nos. 14 and 17 before making the turn. The Orlando, Fla. native birdied No. 1 to move to 4-under, but bogeyed No. 2 and double bogeyed No. 6 to finish at 1-under for the day.
Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy notched his fifth top-25 finish of the season, tying for 22nd at 8-over par. Mondy shot an even-par 72 in the final round. Sophomore Michael Johnson tied for 30th at 10-over, carding a 77 on Tuesday.
Senior Dominic Bozzelli tied for 33rd at 11-over after shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round, while junior Niclas Carlsson finished in 69th at 23-over.
The Tigers will return to action April 8-9 as it co-hosts the Gary Koch Invitational with Kentucky at the Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.
