AWENDAW, S.C. – The No. 20 Auburn men’s golf team is tied for seventh after the first round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Monday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. Play during the second round was halted due to darkness.
The Tigers shot a 19-over 307 and trail North Carolina State by six strokes. No. 11 Duke, Texas A&M and North Carolina are tied for second at 302, while Missouri rounds out the top-five at 303.
Sophomore Michael Johnson and senior Michael Hebert led the way for Auburn, shooting a 3-over 75. Johnson started the day with double bogey on No. 1, but carded a birdie on No. 4. After before a bogey on No. 7, Johnson fired back-to-back birdies on Nos. 9 and 10 to move to even-par. Johnson closed out the round with a bogey on No. 11 before a double bogey on No. 17 to finish at 3-over.
Hebert, who made the turn at 1-over, birdied No. 10, but suffered bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 before a double bogey on 16. The Orlando, Fla., native finished the round with a birdie on No. 17.
Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy shot a 6-over 78, while junior Niclas Carlsson carded a 7-over 79. Senior Dominic Bozzelli shot an 8-over 80.
Round two will continue Tuesday morning at 6:30 CDT. The third round will be a shotgun start starting approximately 8:30 AM CDT. Live scoring for the Hootie at Bulls Bay can be found at www.golfstat.com.
