Auburn Men's Golf In Fourth After First Two Rounds Of E-Z-Go Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Auburn men's golf team shot a 289-293--582 and is in fourth place after the first two rounds of the E-Z-Go Schenkel Invitational at the par-72, 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club Saturday.

The Tigers were 12-over through the first nine holes, but fired an 11-under after the turn to finish the first round just two shots out of the lead before falling to fourth in the second round.

Second-ranked Georgia leads with a 287-277--564. South Carolina (295-283--578) is in second followed by No. 4 Alabama (292-288--580), Auburn, host Augusta State (298-287--585), No. 3 Florida (290-297--587), Arizona (306-284--590), No. 16 Texas A&M (298-293--591), New Mexico (299-293--592), Michigan State (301-293--594), LSU (300-294--594), No. 14 North Carolina (302-293--595), No. 21 Minnesota (299-297--596), Georgia Southern (302-297--599), No. 15 Tennessee (297-302--599), Ohio State (298-302--600), Kentucky (304-298--602) and North Carolina State (311-297--608).

Junior Jamie Bowen leads Auburn with a 70-74--144 and is tied for 11th while Patton Kizzire is tied for 19th with a 71-76--147. Glenn Northcutt is tied for 26th with a 73-75--148 followed by Jay Moseley (75-74--149) and Gordon Strother (79-70--149) in a tie for 36th.

"We got off to a good start this morning, struggled in the middle, then brought it back at the end," head coach Mike Griffin said. "I'm happy with the way Jamie played, and I like the way Gordon rebounded from a tough start. We're going to come ready to play tomorrow and see what happens."

Georgia's Chris Kirk holds the individual lead at 6-under 138, three shots ahead of South Carolina's Baker Elmore, Augusta State's Major Manning and teammate Brendon Todd.
