TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- No. 2 Auburn men's golf won the Seminole Intercollegiate after going 16-under in 36 holes of play on Saturday, jumping from ninth at the par 72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Course.
The Tigers (290-277-283--850) defeated No. 3 Florida State (285-281-286--852) by two strokes.
All-SEC junior Matt Gilchrest tied for seventh at 4-under 73-66-73--212. The Southlake, Texas, product carded 11 birdies for the day, including eight in the second round. Senior Jake Mondy tied for 11th at 3-under 73-70-70--213. The Blacksburg, Va., native had five birdies in the second round, three in the final round and an eagle on No. 10 in the final round.
All-SEC senior Michael Johnson finished a shot back at 2-under 74-70-70--214 to tie for 13th. The No. 2 rated player in collegiate golf tallied 11 birdies on the day.
Junior Will Long tied with Johnson at 13th finishing at 2-under 70-71-73--214. The Gastonia, N.C., native had seven birdies in the second round and eagled No. 1 in the final round. All-America sophomore Ben Schlottman had seven birdies in the final round to close out his weekend tied for 53rd at 7-over 81-72-70--223.
Day one leader James Madison finished third at 10-under 854 followed by East Tennessee State (856), No. 25 Penn State (856), Troy (858), Jacksonville (860), Ole Miss (860), Louisville (863) and VCU (871).
Illinois State (887) finished 11th, followed by West Virginia (887), Mercer (891) and Pennsylvania (891).
