OPELIKA, Ala. – The No. 20 Auburn men’s golf team is tied for ninth after the first round of play on Monday at the Tiger Invitational Presented by Jason Dufner at the Grand National Lake Course. Play was suspended shortly after the completion of round one due to inclement weather while the final 36 holes will be played on Tuesday.
The Tigers shot a 13-over 301 and trail East Carolina (+2) by 11 strokes. Mississippi State is in second with a 4-over 292, followed by Kennesaw State and Wake Forest, who are tied for third at 5-over. Charlotte rounds out the top-5 at 7-over.
Houston's Wesley McClain and South Alabama's Michael Garretson recorded hole-in-ones on Nos. 8 and 15, respectively.
Junior Niclas Carlsson is tied for sixth after shooting even par. After beginning the round with a triple bogey on the par-3 No. 3, Carlsson moved back to even with birdies on Nos. 4, 7 and 8. Carlsson moved to 2-under after carding back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12, but bogeyed three of his next four holes before finishing the round with a birdie.
Senior Michael Hebert is tied for 20th at 2-over. The Orlando, Fla., native started the day with a birdie on No. 2, but bogeyed Nos. 3 and 6 to make the turn at 1-over. Following a birdie on No. 11 to move back to even par, Hebert double bogeyed No. 18.
Senior Dominic Bozzelli is tied for 44th, shooting a 5-over 77. David Zickler is tied for 59th at 6-over followed by sophomore Michael Johnson who is tied for 68th at 7-over.
Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy, who is playing as an individual, is tied for sixth at even par. Mondy carded five birdies with an eagle on the day. Sophomore Dan Stringfellow is tied for 20th at 2-over.
