HOOVER, Ala. – The No. 20 Auburn men’s golf team is in second after the first round of play on Monday at the Samford Intercollegiate at the Hoover Country Club. The Tigers trail Vanderbilt by four strokes after shooting a 3-over 291.
Furman is in third at 4-over followed by Georgia Southern, who is in fourth at 7-over. Montevallo and Winthrop round out the top-5 at 8-over.
Sophomore Michael Johnson is tied for fifth after shooting a 1-under 71. Johnson is two strokes behind Belmont’s Ashton Van Horne, who leads the 94-player field at 3-under.
Seniors Dominic Bozzelli and David Zickler are tied for 16th at 73. Junior Niclas Carlsson, who is coming off his third career victory, is tied for 27th at 74, while senior Michael Hebert is tied for 39th after shooting a 3-over 75.
Due to a one-hour frost delay, the second round of play will not be completed until Tuesday, when play resumes at 8:00 a.m. CT.
